Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fig preserves
  • 2 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 ounces goat cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • lettuce leafs
  • tomato, sliced

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and add sliced onions. Cook onions 25-30 minutes or until onions are soft and caramelized. Add fig preserves and cook another 2-3 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl add ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until evenly combined. Divide the meat into 8 equal portions. Using your fingertips, press the portions of meat into 1/4 inch patties.
  3. In a small bowl, combine goat cheese and a tablespoon of the fig onion mixture. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions. Place a portion of the goat cheese mixture onto half of the patties, save the rest for topping. Add one of the remaining patties to the top of the patties with goat cheese, and pinch to seal. Place the burgers on a prepared grill and cook for 7 minutes each side. Remove patties and place on a clean plate, allowing them to rest for 5 minutes. Place lettuce and tomato on the bottom of each bun, followed by the patty and topped with the fig onion jam and top bun. Serve immediately.
